In my home we make a conscious effort to try and reduce our plastic waste. This means buying less things covered in plastic (like single cucumbers from the grocery store...why are they in plastic??), buying in bulk from zero waste stores, and trying to reuse what we have. Now to be completely honest we still have a ways to go in our zero waste lifestyle, but we have started lessening our plastic waste and I’m happy with our progress.
One thing we use a lot of everyday is hand soap. We were constantly spending money on buying pretty looking smelly hand soap. But then we have all these plastic bottles and recycling is only so good. So Kirsten made me foam hand soap with Castile soap, water, an up-cycled foaming container and essential oils. Well, I was hooked and the littles love it because it foams up and we can pick any smell we like!
Instead of going through bottles of hand soap every month we only use one bottle of Castile Soap. The Castile Soap lasts us for a long time because we buy the biggest container, again to try and lessen our waste.
This DIY is so easy!
What You Need:
Step 1: In your hand soap container add 2-3 tbsp of Castile soap.
Step 2: Add your favourite Earthly Healing essential oil drops and swish.
Step 3: Next slowly add your distilled or filtered water. We never have distilled water on hand and buying a bottle of it would just add to our plastic waste in our home. Filtered water works just as well. When adding your water add it slowly so you don’t make lots of bubbles.
Step 4: Put your lid on and voila! Easy hand soap!
If you like you can check out our Etsy shop to buy the vinyl to add to your container!
Disclaimer: Due to differing sensitivities, it is always a good idea to test on small patch of skin. If reaction occurs, discontinue use.
